“My partner, Eli, is disabled and poor. Through MassHealth, they get home care services weekly. Dulia, Mohamed, and Yessica have supported us over the years - cleaning Eli’s room, the bathroom they use, and the kitchen.
Their labor takes a huge burden off of me and our roommates (during lockdown when we did not have home care services we rotated cleaning Eli’s room). It means I don’t feel resentful cleaning Eli’s room, or stressed about the state of the shower.
Eli feels so much relief when they come into their newly cleaned room, I can feel the stress and shame they feel about not being able to do their own domestic work melt away.
As poor and working class people, we still benefit so much from domestic workers’ labor. In these relationships, we see our shared stake and mutual interest in liberation.
So my donation is to expand leadership development for a robust domestic workers movement.”
